Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina has made some magnificent strides over the past few months, as she reached the fourth round in Miami last week, which lifted her to a career high of world No. 35. The new ranking also means she is the new No. 1 teenager on the professional tour, storming ahead of American upstart Madison Keys.
Apart from her fourth round appearance at the Miami Premier Mandatory event, she also managed a quarter-final showing in Paris and a career-best third round exit from the season-opening Grand Slam event in Melbourne, making her one of the bright young stars of the upcoming generation.
“I’m thrilled to be the WTA’s highest-ranked teenager in the world.”Elina Svitolina said.”I’m having so much fun playing tennis and getting the opportunity to compete against some amazing players. I’ve been working hard to improve and I’m really looking forward to playing in Madrid, Rome and of course Roland Garros, over the next couple of months. I’m very competitive so I hope I can keep improving and raise my ranking even further before the end of the year.”
Elina was also revealed as the latest ambassador for global sportswear brand Ellesse earlier this year, and now trains exclusively in their tennis apparel.
“ellesse has a rich heritage in tennis and as we look to the future, we are delighted to be supporting such an exceptional young talent in Elina.” said Marco Ellerker, ellesse global brand president. “Her determination and positive attitude to life embodies everything ellesse stands for and of course she looks fantastic in the our new designs!”
