Budding Italian talent Camila Giorgi has been given wildcard entry into the Internazionali BNL d’Italia next month.
The 22-year-old Giorgi, who is currently ranked 54th in the world, reached the final of the WTA event in Katowice last week, losing to Frenchwoman Alize Cornet in the final. The Italian defeated the likes of Roberta Vinci and Carla Suarez Navarro to reach the final, and managed to take the final to a deciding set, and even held a match point in that set before surrendering the match to Cornet.
Her performance in Poland was not her best this season, as she managed to reached he fourth round at indian Wells, beating Maria Sharapova in the process. She also earned her first Top 10 win last season when she defeated Caroline Wozniacki at the US Open.
Giorgi is the sixth-highest ranked Italian in the women’s rankings.
The Internazionali BNL d’Italia takes place between May 12-18 in Rome, Italy.
