After being forced to sit on the sidelines for the past three months with a knee injury, Benoit Paire made a successful return to the ATP World Tour this week, as he reached the quarter-final round of the Grand Prix Hassan II for a third consecutive year.
The world No. 33 beat Albert Montanes to reach the final eight in Casablanca. He struck 13 aces and won 3/7 break points to earn the 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win. It was his first victory on the tour since a third round exit at the Australian Open.
“I’m very happy to be back on the court,” said Paire. “The quarter-final against Garcia-Lopez will be a tough match since he’s a great clay-court player. I’ve played him a few times and the matches were always very close.”
Benoit will next meet Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, whom he holds a 2-0 lead in the head-to-head series, for a spot in the semi-final round.
