14th seeded Andrea Petkovic took on 78th ranked Jana Cepelova in the final of the Family Circle Cup tournament in Charleston on Sunday afternoon. Cepelova had a great tournament this week, as she dispensed with world number one Serena Williams in her second round match, followed by a defeat of 13th seeded Elena Vesnina and her countrywoman, 12th seeded Daniela Hantuchova. Petkovic got the better of 4th seeded Sabine Lisicki, 9th seeded Lucie Safarova and 6th seeded Eugenie Bouchard to open up the draw for the lower ranked players.
Petkovic got the match under way and took the first three games before the Slovak broke back to get on the scoreboard and take the next three games to lead 4-3. The next two games went with serve before Petkovic broke for 5-5, held and served out the set at 7-5. She immediately broke at the start of the second set and quickly ran up a 5-0 lead with her serve to come, but Cepelova was not yet ready to concede the match and won the nest two games. Petkovic then served out the set at 6-2 after an hour and twenty minutes for her first ever Premier Level title.
