The highest two seeds remaining Monterrey Open are scheduled to meet on Saturday evening, as Serbian No. 2 Ana Ivanovic and world No. 14 Caroline Wozniacki clash for a spot in the final. This marks the sixth time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Ivanovic leading the head-to-head series 3-2.
Ana Ivanovic stormed to a rapid lead against Rybarikova, taking the first set 6-1 in 31 minutes. Ivanovic was relatively consistent on her service games early on, winning 65% of 1st serve points, 55% of 2nd serve points, and managed to save 5/6 break points in the process. While she began the match in fantastic fashion, Ivanovic would quickly collapse in the second set, dropping all of her service games to surrender the second set 6-0. She would regroup in the third set, raise her serve percentage and fight her way to a 6-2 win in the final set.
World No. 14 Caroline Wozniacki was faced with two straight set victories in her first couple of matches in Monterrey, yet needed to rally for a three set win against Karolina Pliskova. After losing the first set in a tight tiebreaker, the Danish No. 1 regrouped and found her form in the following two sets, securing the victory 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. This is Wozniacki’s first time appearance at this event and by reaching the final (or possible victory), she could add to her ranking points after her recent slip.
This marks the sixth time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Ivanovic leading the series 3-2. Ivanovic won their most recent contest, but it took place almost two years ago, when both competitors were at different stages of their respective careers. It will be interesting to see who will hold the advantage tomorrow, as they are tied 2-2 in hard court competition.
Prediction: Ana Ivanovic in Three Sets
