World No. 8 Juan Martin del Potro has withdrawn from yet another tournament, as his wrist problems have forced him out of the Sony Open in Miami. The Argentine has begun feeling the problems at the Australian Open and has missed tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells because of the rehabilitation process, yet it appears he has still not recovered and may require surgery to rectify the matter.
“During these days I was training at the Crandon Park and followed the treatment to try to play in Miami, but I still feel pain in my left wrist and I don’t feel competitive to go on court,” Del Potro said on his Facebook page. “It’s a pity because this is a special tournament for me since there are many Latin fans and Argentines in particular.”
Del Potro, who had received a first-round bye in Miami, was scheduled to meet either Federico Delbonis or Ryan Harrison of the USA in the second round. He is now 7-3 this season, with a title win in Sydney at the start of the season.
The Sony Open takes place between March 19-30.
