The world No. 19 had a strong start to the 2014 season, reaching the semi-finals in both Vina del Mar and Buenos Aires, but would fail to maintain that momentum in the following weeks. He would lose to eventual finalist Alexandr Dolgopolov in the opening round of the inaugural Rio Open, as well as in the second round in Sao Paulo, where he would lose to Federico Delbonis, who would go on to win the title.
The BNP Paribas Open takes place in the Indian Wells Tennis Garden between March 6-16.
