The first two quarter final matches at the huge BN Paribas Open being played at Indian Wells could not have been different. In the first 6th seeded Simona Halep, who had made her way to this stage by way of a first round bye, an easy straight sets win in the second round and a three set battle against 26th seeded Lucy Safarova, faced off against qualifier Casey Dellacqua, who had taken out 19th seeded Kirsten Flipkens and 13th seeded Roberta Vinci before getting a walkover against Lauren Davis. It took Halep exactly one hour to see off the 78th ranked Aussie 6-2 6-2 to once again make the semis of a Premier level tournament.
The second semi final, also played on Wednesday, was between 2nd seeded Agnieszka Radwanska and 7th seeded Jelena Jankovic. The Serb had a first round bye and then lost only nine games in her next two matches before coming up against 10th seeded Caroline Wozniacki, whom she beat easily 6-3 6-1. The Pole also had a first round bye, followed by two very straight forward straight sets wins, including a double bagel against Annika Beck in the third round and a 7-5 6-3 win over 22nd seed Alize Cornet. Radwanska had a tough day at the office, taking the first set 7-5 but allowing the Serb to fight back and take the second 6-2. Radwanska finally took the decider 6-4 after two hours and thirty three minutes on court to book her place in the semis.
