Venus Williams Miami Dominika Cibulkova vs Venus Williams Preview – WTA Miami 2014 Round 4

A fourth round clash is scheduled to take place between world No. 11 Dominika Cibulkova and former world No. 1 Venus Williams on Monday afternoon in Miami. The two competitors have not met in nearly four years, with the Williams vs Cibulkova Head to Head standing at 1-1.

Dominika Cibulkova outpointed Alize Cornet 7-6(6), 6-4 to reach the fourth round of the Sony Open in Miami. While the French No. 1 was 5-2 up in the opening set, she failed to serve out the match and allowed Cibulkova to even the score and send the match to a tiebreaker, eventually snatching the set. Cibulkova had to withstand five aces from Cornet – hitting 71% of her points on first serve in the process.

“I think since the last time we played I’m a different player, a more experienced player,” Cibulkova said. “Right now I’m feeling very cool and confident on the court, and I’m playing well. But she’s playing well too – she just won Dubai – and she feels at home here in Miami. It will definitely be a tough one.”

Next up for Cibulkova is a fourth round encounter with former world No. 1 Venus Williams, whom she has defeated previously on the WTA tour.

“I don’t even know the last time I played her, but I know every time she plays Serena she competes so well,” Williams said of Cibulkova. “I think they played here last year in the semifinals. I was watching that match. It may have been a three-setter – I just remember the match was really, really tough.”

Venus Williams needed a deciding set to secure the 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Australian qualifier Casey Dellacqua. The American stuck 11 aces, hit 53% of her first serves in, yet also made 6 double faults in the process.

This marks the third time these two competitors will meet on the professional circuit, with the series tied at 1-1. The last time they met was nearly four years ago, making this an entirely different match-up. Cibulkova is playing the best tennis of her young career as of late and will be looking to topple her legendary opponent on Monday afternoon.

Prediction: Dominika Cibulkova in Three Sets

I agree Venus will win ,but not in three, but str8 sets.

Dominika better work on her serve if she wants to beat Venus. that serve will be blasted by Venus if she doesn't speed it up.
