British No. 1 Andy Murray will begin his week at the BNP Paribas Open with a second round match-up against the one-time giant slayer Lukas Rosol. It is the first time the two competitors will clash on the ATP Tour and should make for an interesting match-up. Murray is in desperate need of a strong showing this week in Indian Wells, as he continues to work on regaining full form.
Murray is coming off a somewhat turbulent week in Acapulco, where he reached the semi-finals before succumbing to eventual champion Grigor Dimitrov. Dimitrov needed two tiebreakers in the final two sets, creating nail-biting tension for the crowd in attendance, yet he managed to snatch the victory before going on to win the title the following day. While Murray looked sluggish at the start of every match he took part in that week, his ability to rally back and win the match was a telling sign of his current recovery.
World No. 47 Lukas Rosol reached the second round in Indian Wells following a three set victory over Dusan Lajovic. The victory brought Rosol to 4-7 this season, with his best performances taking place in Sydney, where he reached the second round and last week’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where he reached the quarter-final before losing to eventual champion Roger Federer. He will be looking for his biggest victory of the season when he meets Murray in the second round on Wednesday.
While Murray is yet to fully regain his confidence, timing and self-belief, he is well on the road to a full recovery and it will be interesting to see if that will be on display this week in Indian Wells. His second round match-up against Rosol could prove to be a difficult match, yet he should manage to dispatch of him in straight sets to reach the third round.
Prediction: Andy Murray in Straight Sets
