Jankovic Indian Wells Agnieszka Radwanska vs Jelena Jankovic Preview WTA Indian Wells 2014 QF

A fantastic quarter-final bout is scheduled to take place between world No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska and top Serb Jelena Jankovic at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday. This marks the sixth time these two competitors will meet on the WTA Tour, with the Radwanska vs Jankovic Head to Head standing at 4-1.

Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska reached the final eight at Indian Wells after defeating a tough Alize Cornet on Tuesday afternoon. The French No. 1 held a break lead late in the opening set, yet failed to serve it out, allowing the Pole back into the match to eventually snatch it 7-5. The second set was more straightforward as Radwanska remained focused and scored a comfortable 6-3 win to set up a clash against Jelena Jankovic, whom she has defeated in their last c=four consecutive encounters.

“We’ve played a lot of times against each other but our last match was a long time ago,” Radwanska said. “It’s going to be a good challenge for me, especially because she’s been playing some good tennis this year, and she played a really good match against Caroline today. I’ll have to play my best.”

While Radwanska had a tough battle on her hands, Jankovic faced a far more comfortable match against Caroline Wozniacki. While the Dane looked poised for another dominant win over Jankovic as she led 3-1, the Serb picked up the pace and reeled off 10 straight games, eventually winning 6-3, 6-1.

“I kind of surprised myself,” she said. “Two nights ago I hurt my back, and yesterday I did not hit at all. I had a lot of treatment. I couldn’t put my shoes on. I went on court not knowing how I was going to feel, if I was going to be limited with my movement, if I was going to be able to play my game. But I did, and I was surprised. I was so happy and really pleased with how everything went out there today.”

This marks the sixth time these two will meet on the WTA tour, with Radwanksa leading the series 4-1. She has won their last four consecutive matches dating back to 2011. They last met at the 2012 Tokyo WTA Open, where Radwanska clinched the victory 6-2, 7-5. She has also managed to bagel Jankovic in two of the four matches they have played – adding to her dominance in the rivalry. She is certainly the favourite to win their Wednesday encounter and reach the semi-finals at Indian Wells.

Prediction: Agnieszka Radwanska in Three Sets
