A fantastic quarter-final clash has been officially set as world No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska will face rising star Dominika Cibulkova for a spot in final four in Miami. The Head-to-Head series stands at 4-2 for Radwanska, who will be looking to avenge her loss to Cibulkova in the Australian Open semi-final earlier this year.
World No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska arrived in the quarter-final of the Miami Masters following a 7-6(5) 5-7 6-2 victory over Elina Svitolina on Monday afternoon. It was a slow start for the Polish No. 1, who fell 1-4 at the start of the match, yet eventually clinched the set in a tiebreaker. Svitolina refused to go away after dropping the opening set, eventually breaking to win 7-5 in the second set, but could not maintain the pace and would lose in the third.
Rising star Dominika Cibulkova followed up her impressive victory over Alize Cornet with another fantastic win over Venus Williams in three sets. After storming through the opening set, Cibulkova surrendered the second set and was forced to battle it out in a competitive third set against the former World No. 1. She eventually broke ahead and and closed out the match 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. The world No. 11 has now reached the quarter-finals or better of five events this season, including the Indian Wells Premier Mandatory as well as the Australian Open.
This marks the seventh time that these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Radwanska leading the series 4-2, with two of those victories coming last year. Cibulkova holds the most recent win, which took place at the start of the year in the Melbourne semi-final. It will be interesting to see if she can follow up with another victory over the Polish No. 1 tomorrow afternoon.
Prediction: Dominika Cibulkova in Three Sets
