The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has thrown up more than a few surprises this year, and Venus Williams getting through to the final to most possibly play her sister Serena, is just one of them. Both Williams sisters took wildcards for this tournament, with Serena being the top seed and Venus not being seeded. Venus has been in fine form throughout the week, losing just five games to get to the quarters, where she had to work a lot harder to get past Flavia Pannetta 6-3 7-5. 8th seeded Wozniacki battled past Sabine Lisicki in three sets in the first round, followed by two straight sets wins to make it to the semis.
On Friday afternoon in the first semi final, Williams broke in the very first game, but Caroline Wozniacki broke back in the 4th game to get back on level terms. Venus took the next three games in a row but when serving for the set, the Dane broke back to love to trail 3-5, but her effort was in vain, as Williams took the set 6-3. The American then ran up a 3-0 lead in the second set before the Dane got a game. She then held her serve to trail 2-4 before Williams took the last two games and the set at 6-2 to make the final again – and have another shot at winning the tournament again, as she did in 2009.
