Following a quick opening round victory, top seed Richard Gasquet is through to the quarter-finals of the Open 13, where he will face Ivan Dodig for a spot in the final four of the tournament. This marks just the second time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Gasquet leading the head-to-head series 1-0.
World No. 9 Richard Gasquet defeated Blaz Kavcic in straight sets to reach the quarter-final stage in Marseille. The Frenchman won 76% of his service points and managed to convert three break points out of eleven to earn the 6-3, 6-3 win in 70 minutes. Gasquet, who is now through to his third quarter-final at this tournament, will be looking to reach his second final of the season, after losing to Monfils in Montpellier two weeks back. The French No. 1 is 6-6 in Marseille and is yet to reach the semi-finals, having lost to Robin Soderling and Juan Martin del Potro in his two attempts. His upcoming contest against Ivan Dodig is his best opportunity to break that trend and win his first title in this particular event.
World No. 34 Ivan Dodig is through to the quarter-final stage following two successful contests against Albano Olivetti and Tobias Kamke. His second round contest against Kamke was a tougher match-up and needed a total of three sets for Dodig to secure the victory and reach his second quarter-final of the season. Dodig is yet to reach a ATP World Tour semi-final in 2014.
This marks just the second time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Gasquet leading the head-to-head series 1-0. The victory came in the 2013 Australian Open, where Gasquet earned a four set victory, after dropping the opening set 6-4. This will likely be a competitive contest, as Dodig is playing well so far this season, while Gasquet is still yet to put a stamp on the 2014 season and will need a strong win to build momentum heading into the final two contests in Marseille.
Prediction: Richard Gasquet in Three Sets
