World No. 1 Rafael Nadal has officially announced his participation at this year’s Sony Open in March. The three-time runner up will be looking for his first title win in Miami, one of the few Masters 1000 titles he is yet to win in his illustrious career.
Nadal, who returned from a knee injury in February, 2013, skipped the Sony Open to complete the Golden Swing in Latin America, winning two titles in the process. He followed up with a title victory in Indian Wells, beginning a hard court winning streak that would see him return to the world No. 1 spot by the end of the US Open.
The three-time runner-up joins a field of players loaded with elite competition, including 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, defending Sony Open champion Andy Murray, reining Australian Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka and three-time Sony Open champ Novak Djokovic.
The Sony Open takes place between between March 17- March 30. Nadal is scheduled to play his first match Saturday, March 22 at 8pm.
