Following his straight sets victory over Ernests Gulbis at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, Tomas Berdych is now one win away from ending his title drought, which saw him go winless since October 2012, when he faces Croatia’s Marin Cilic in the Rotterdam final.
Gulbis, who upset defending champion Juan Martin del Potro the previous day, was unable to withstand Berdych’s seven aces and simply could not overcome the Czech’s strong service games. The third seed defeated Gulbis 6-3, 6-2 in 76 minutes to set up his first final of the season.
World No. 37 Cilic, who captured his fourth PBZ Zagreb Indoors title last week, defeated local wild card Igor Sijsling 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals to extend his winning streak to nine matches. A win tomorrow afternoon would return Cilic the title of Croatian No. 1.
The ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament takes place Sunday afternoon in Rotterdam.
