World no. 1 Serena Williams has certainly proven to be a dominant force on the WTA tour. Between her achievements as well as her sister’s, they have been winning Grand Slam titles for 15 years. Yet, their influence on the sport spreads further as Serena believes her background and fashion sense played a part in the transformation of tennis.
Ahead of her exhibition match in Buenos Aires, Serena discussed the contributions that her sister Venus and herself have made on the sport and the lasting impact they have left behind.
“We changed tennis,” Serena told reporters. “We brought passion and fashion wearing extravagant clothes. And also style, power as a new skin color as we are African-Americans. We improved tennis.”
Apart from her events in Latin America, Serena is scheduled to meet Victoria Azarenka in an invitational event that takes place in Hua Hin, a popular resort in Bangkok. She has also promised to work on improving her game for the upcoming season, where she expects to make less mistakes and achieve higher. That is a daunting prospect for the remainder of the competitors in the top 10.
