Another top 10 competitor has revealed that she will be taking part in the Brisbane International next month, as Danish star Caroline Wozniacki is the latest to confirm her entry into the pre-Australian Open tournament.
The World No. 10 revealed the news when discussing whether she would accompany boyfriend Rory McEllroy to Australia for his major golf competition, to which she stated that it would be too much unnecessary effort to make two trips to Australia.
“It’s just too far to travel to Australia as I am playing in the Brisbane International and Sydney before the Australian Open, so I didn’t want to have to make two journeys to Australia in such a short space of time,” she said.
The Dane will be hoping for a better 2014, as she only won one title in 23 tournaments this season. She understands that there are “ups and downs” in her career but she truly believes that she is capable of winning Grand Slam titles if she applies herself fully.
“The downs just make the ups even better. You know, you appreciate it more,” she said. “I know that when I put in the work, I am a player who can win a Grand Slam.”
The Brisbane International takes place in the Queensland Tennis Centre from December 29-January 5 and will feature all of the top female competitors including Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka.
