A first-time encounter between Ana Ivanovic (Bio) and Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele (Bio) takes place in the semi-final of the Linz Open tomorrow afternoon. Both women are hunting for their first title of the season and for Voegele, the first ever title of her career. Ivanovic vs Voegele Head to Head.
The World No. 16 is yet to drop a set after three matches here in the Generali Ladies. She picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Yanina Wickmayer, who had previously won the tournament in 2009, a 6-3, 7-5 win over Francesca Schiavone and a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cibulkova earlier today. She is a two time winner her in Austria and will be looking for a record third title as she edges one step closer to the final. Ivanovic has been given wildcard entry into the year-end championships and a strong performance here in Linz would certainly help her case for deserving a spot in the prestigious tournament. The Serb is yet to reach a final this season.
The Swiss player lost the opening set against Stephens but required one break to take the second set and notched the third after trailing 5-2. The 12th-ranked Stephens lost the last five games of the final set to exit in disappointing fashion. Voegele needed three sets to get past all her opponents in Linz but her determination has seen her through the tough battles and into her third semifinal of the season. She has compiled a 31-25 record this season including her second round win over Karin Knapp and her quarterfinal win over Stephens.
This is their first ever encounter on the professional tour. Both these competitors will be looking to advance into the final and work their way up the ranks. For Ivanovic, this is an opportunity to reach her first final of the season, while Voegele will be looking for best biggest win of the season.
