Generali Ladies Linz 2013, QF
Centre Court, Second Match
Sloane Stephens (Bio) continues the charge for her first WTA Title and faces Stefanie Voegele (Bio) in a very winnable match for a spot in the semi-finals. Check out the Stephens vs Voegele Head to Head.
For an International level tournament, Stephens has had a tough route to get this far. First round opponent Magdalena Rybarikova already has an indoor title on the tour but was dispatched convincingly 6-3 6-1 while the second round Stephens saw off Andrea Petkovic in the second round in a hard fought encounter. After a disappointing second set she would take the third for a 7-6 4-6 6-3 victory.
Meanwhile, the unseeded Voegele had to beat Klara Zakapalova and Karin Knapp so far. After losing the first set, Voegele fought back but would be made to work for it in the decider. She did hold a double break lead in the third but would be pegged back, but would break to avoid in the tiebreak in game 12 for a 4-6 6-2 7-5 win.
With the favourite Angelique Kerber in the other half the draw, the winner has a great opportunity of a spot in the final although two time winner Ana Ivanovic may have something to say about that. Stephens is often criticised for her poor performances outside of slams but a run to the final would at least quiet some of the doubters.
Prediction: Sloane Stephens in straight sets
