After beating Canada’s Milos Raonic 7-6 6-4 in the third round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters, Stanislas Wawrinka (Bio) has moved ahead of his compatriot Roger Federer (Bio) in ATP Race to London Rankings thanks to Federer’s defeat to Gael Monfils.
He moves into seventh with a current total of 3150 points, establishing a 5 point lead over Federer who drops to eighth. With five spots remaining, the race is beginning to hot up. Wawrinka is one of three players in the quarter finals who still have a chance of qualifying, along with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2830) and Juan Martin Del Potro (4000), for the event at the O2 Arena beginning the week of November 4th.
With defeat, Milos Raonic’s chances took a huge hit while Tsonga can take advantage with a very winnable quarter final against Florian Mayer. Del Potro will fancy his chances at further tightening his grip on the fourth spot but Wawrinka is unlikely to go any further with Rafael Nadal awaiting him.
He is 0-10 against the new World No.1 who has lost just four matches all year.
The current race rankings are as follows;
5. Juan Martin Del Potro 4000
6. Tomas Berdych 3800
7. Stanislas Wawrinka 3150
8. Roger Federer 3145
9. Richard Gasquet 2960
10. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 2830
11. Milos Raonic 2770
