Top seed and world number one Serena Williams (Player Profile) will take on the challenge of Agnieszka Radwanska (Player Profile) in the semi final round of the China Open in Beijing. Williams has won all her matches to date in straight sets, although surprisingly she did not roll through her matches easily and had to battle hard against both Schiavone and Kirilenko. Her list of wins was against Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-2, Francesca Schiavone 6-4 7-5, Maria Kirilenko 7-5 7-5 and, in the quarters, Caroline Wozniacki 6-1 6-4. She completely outplayed the Dane in the first set, but Wozniacki fought back to make something of a match in the second before wrapping up the match in an hour and sixteen minutes.
Agnieszka Radwanska was taken to her limits in her first round against Stephanie Vogele, eventually winning 4-6 6-4 6-4. She then beat Madison Keys 6-3 6-2, followed by an easy 6-0 6-2 win over qualifier Polona Hercog. In the quarters on Friday she took out 7th seed Angelique Kerber 7-6 (9-7) 6-4. This was a hard day at the office for both players who went toe to toe throughout the first set – and continued the nail biting affair into the breaker. The second set was just as close with one break of the German’s service sealing the match in an hour and forty three minutes.
