Shanghai Rolex Masters R3
Stadium Court, Not Before 8pm
Fresh off securing No.1 in the ATP rankings as of Monday this week, Rafael Nadal (Player Bio) can confirm the year end No.1 spot with a title in Shanghai, a win that would also give him the record amount of Masters titles in one year (6). However, he will want to take it step by step as he faces Carlos Berlocq (Player Bio) in the third round. Check out the Nadal v Berlocq Head to Head.
Nadal swept aside Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets 6-3 6-2 after bouncing back from the disappointment of losing to Novak Djokovic in the final of Beijing. It was a dominant serving performance from Nadal with him hitting 83% of his first serves and 9 aces to ensure that Dolgopolov didn’t even have a sniff of a break.
Meanwhile, Berlocq has surprised many with his runs here. He defeated Dmitry Tursunov in round one and shocked John Isner in the second round, taking advantage of the Americans poor form outside of North America. Berlocq dropped just five points on serve against Isner, with the American unable to trouble him throughout the match.
Berlocq’s run will come to an end in the third round here but his performances to date suggests that he may at least keep it competitive against Nadal. Nadal leads the head to head 2-0 winning both meetings on the clay this year. Berlocq won the first set in Sao Paolo before losing in three but would go down in two in Barcelona months later.
Prediction: Rafael Nadal in straight sets
