Novak Djokovic (Player Bio) moves ever close to a record breaking fourth Beijing title as he takes on Richard Gasquet (Player Bio) for the 11th time in his career. Check out the Djokovic vs Gasquet Head to Head.
After a shaky performance against Fernando Verdasco in the second round, Djokovic reverted to type with a dominant performance over Sam Querrey. He dropped just five points on serve in the 6-1 6-2 and only missed out on a first set bagel due to a hold from 0-40 from the American. It was one of the few highlights for him as Querrey saw his serve broken on four occasions.
Meanwhile, Gasquet showed that his US Open victory over David Ferrer was no fluke, repeating the trick in his quarter-final match. After controlling the first set, Gasquet suffered a minor letdown once a break up, gifting it right back to Ferrer. However, he didn’t let it get to him and would still manage to take the match in straights 6-3 6-4.
It is promising for Gasquet that he is battling through these matches when Ferrer had previously been a terrible matchup but Djokovic will be several steps up. Djokovic has won the last six matches between them (5 of which have been on hard) and leads the Head to Head 9-1 in total. In those six matches, Djokovic has won 13 sets out of 13 with Gasquet getting more than four games in just one of those sets. His current form suggests he may make it closer this time but taking a set still looks a stretch.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic in straight sets
