One of two all-seeded matchups at this stage, No. 2 Mikhail Youzhny (Player Profile) and No.5 Richard Gasquet (Player Profile) face off for the tenth time in their career in this quarter final clash from Thailand. Gasquet looked impressive in his second round victory over Lukas Lacko as he begins the defence of his title. After saving a three break points from 0-40 down at the beginning of the match, the Frenchman never looked in danger as he broke the Slovakian’s serve three times on the way to a 6-3 6-2 victory. Youzhny vs Gasquet Head to Head : 5-4.
Youzhny has had little trouble so far in his first two matches, winning both in straight sets. He defeated Paolo Lorenzi 6-3 6-2 and was also convincing against Denis Istomin, defeating the Uzbek 6-3 6-3.
Gasquet has kept the momentum going from his US Open semi final run and will fancy his chances against the Russian despite the head to head not being in his favour.
Both players have decent indoor pedigree with six titles between them on the surface but the most recent winner was Gasquet in Montpellier 250 this year. He defeated Benoit Paire with ease in the final to add the trophy to that of the 2012 edition of this tournament. Expect a tough hardfought match between the two but Gasquet should ultimately prevail as he looks to keep his run of good form going.
Prediction: Richard Gasquet in 3 sets
