2013 Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray (Player Info) has announced the creation of his own sports management agency, named ‘77’ after his 2013 Wimbledon triumph – “The choice of name, 77, is symbolic and means a lot to me”
Referring to the number of years between British male winners at SW19 and the data (7th July) of that memorable grass-court final, the agency will give Murray “more freedom and the chance to become more involved in my business affairs.
I’ve got a great team of people around me who I trust, both on and off the court, which in turn allows me to completely focus on my tennis. I look forward to working with the team on the next stage of my career.”
That team consists of renowned PR expert Simon Fuller (who is currently involved in a similar arrangement with David Beckham. Indian Grand Slam doubles champion Mahesh Bhupathi, who himself has made headlines, is also on board and is expected to bring new business into the agency particularly from the Asian market. The man responsible for Juan Martin del Potro’s management, Ugo Colombini, has also been named as a key member of the team. Colombini will be responsible for the tournament side of things, including managing activity along with Fuller in his role as company chairman.
The speculation for long-term is that the Scottish tennis star will go on to open his own tennis academies, in like John McEnro before him, as well as acquire some top tennis players onto his books.
