World no.1 Novak Djokovic will play Rafael Nadal in Sunday’s 2013 Monte Carlo Masters final, with many tennis fans eagerly awaiting this dream encounter.
Djokovic booked his place in the final with a more than convincing performance against Italy’s Fabio Fognini, allowing him only three games on his way to a crushing 6-2 6-1 victory.
The Serb was in full control of the match from the very beginning, breaking his opponent twice to wrap up the first set in just 28 minutes.
After the 2013 Australian Open champion took Fognini’s serve for the third time at the beginning of the second set, this time to love, the encounter was practically over. With some high percentage shot making and excellent court coverage, Djokovic cruised to a superb win as he broke the Italian’s serve in the 6th game yet again just before wrapping up the match with a hold to 15.
Nadal leads the head to head against Djokovic with 19-14, having won their last three encounters, including the 2012 Monte Carlo final. Last time they met was in the Roland Garros 2012 final, with the Spaniard prevailing in four sets.
