Novak Djokovic won the 2013 Monte Carlo Rolex Masters title after beating 8 time champion Rafael Nadal in Sunday’s final, prevailing 6-2 7-6 (1).
World no.1 Djokovic came out very strong to storm to a 5-0 lead in the first set, despite struggling with a minor ankle injury before the match. Although Nadal reduced the score to 2-5, he couldn’t stop the in-form playing Serb from taking a one set lead.
Nadal, who has won his last 46 matches here in Monte Carlo, seemed to gain some momentum at the start of the second set as he went 4-2 up. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, he couldn’t hold serve and not only did Novak level the score at 4-4, he broke Rafa once more (this time to love) when the Spaniard had a great opportunity to serve out the set at 6-5. Djokovic produced some sublime tennis in the ‘breaker’, allowing the King of Clay only one point to sail to an amazing victory.
