Two Italians, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci have made it into the fourth round at the Miami Open on Sunday, albeit with very different wins. Errani, the 8th seed, swept past a hapless Simona Halep of Roumania 6-1 6-0 in just forty eight minutes to continue her WTA match winning record for 2013, with 23 wins so far. The Italian will next take on 12th seed Anna Ivanovic who took out Svetlana Kuznetsova.
15th seeded Vinci had to battle hard for her win against the Spanish 20th seed, Carla Suarez Navarro. In a marathon match which last almost two and a half hours, Suarez Navarro took the first set 7-5 but Vinci needed only one break in the second to take it 6-4. The Spaniard lead 2-0 in the decider, but the wily Italian fought back to eventually take it 6-4. Her next opponent will be 32nd seed Alize Cornet who defeated the lucky loser Lauren Davis.
In an all Russian match, number 3 seed Maria Sharapova played against the 29th seeded Elena Vesnina. Vesnina was on fire at the beginning of the encounter, building a 3-1 lead in the first set with a break of serve, but Sharapova then also caught fire and wasted neither time nor energy to come out on top 6-4 6-2 to book her slot in the quarters, where she will meet 21st seed Klara Zakopalova.
