Top seed and defending champion Victoria Azarenka took to court on Tuesday to play Urszula Radwanska for a place in the quarter finals and to try to continue her sixteen match winning streak. Even though Azarenka was playing with an ankle injury, she managed to take this match with ease, winning 6-3 6-1 in just an hour and twenty four minutes to book her place in the quarters where she will take on Caroline Wozniacki. Surprisingly these two players have not met for two years – the last time they did was at this tournament in 2011.
Also in the bottom half of the draw, 8th seed Wozniacki played the last of the fourth round matches for her place in the quarter finals against the 10th seeded Russian, Nadia Petrova. Wozniacki led the head to head stat 4-2 going into this match, but as both players are playing well at present, an interesting match was forecast – and delivered.. In the first set the two went toe to toe all the way to a tie break, which the Dane won 7-3. Wozniacki got the vital break to take the second set 6-3, but it was a real battle from beginning to end – and it took her just short of two hours for her two set victory.
