Second seed Serena Williams, took on Agnieszka Radwanska’s younger sister, Urszula Radwanska, in a night match at the Qatar Total Open in Doha on Thursday. Serena had a bye in the first round and a 6-2 6-1 win in the second round, while Ursula only lost one game in her first round match and then took out the tournament’s 15th seed, Italian Roberta Vinci in the second round in three sets. Serena was just too powerful for the slightly built Pole and completely blanked her in the first set, before allowing her just three games in the second set to complete her victory in less than an hour on court.

7th seeded Czech Petra Kvitova, played a resurgent Nadia Petrova of Russia. Kvitova had a bye in the first round and a retirement in the second round after she had won the first set 6-4, while Petrova has an easy straight sets win in her first round match and a lengthy three set struggle in the second round. Petrova once again found herself in a thrilling three setter in Thursday’s match. She took the first set 6-4, but Kvitova came back to win the second with the same score line. In the decider both players held serve until 3-3 when the Czech pulled away and won the next three games to take the set 6-3. She will meet Serena Williams in the quarters.
