Benoit Paire of France upset fellow countryman Gilles Simon to reach the ATP Montpellier 2013 semi-finals, winning 7-5 7-6 (4).
Despite Simon getting off to a better start and taking a 4-3 lead in the first set with a break to his good, he wasn’t able to maintain control of the set. Not only did he drop his serve in the very next game, but Paire managed to break him once more in the 12th game to take a lead in the match.
Paire seemed to be in charge of the second set as he stormed to a 5-2 lead just before Simon fought his way back, forcing a ‘breaker’. However, the no.4 seed Simon’s struggles continued and with a 7-4 score, Paire advanced to the Saturday’s semis, where he will meet another Frenchman, Michael Llodra.
Llodra played a superb second round match against the Serb Tipsarevic and managed to continue in his great run at this year’s tournament with a 7-6 (3) 6-1 win over Jan Hajek of Czech Republic.
The Frenchman’s serving (11 aces) and volleying made the difference once again in today’s match, just like against Tipsarevic.
