10th seed Caroline Wozniacki took on Marion Bartoli, who got a last minute wild card for this tournament, in the quarter finals in the bottom half of the draw at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Thursday evening. After a tough three setter in the first round, Bartoli got a walk over into the quarters when Serena Williams pulled out with a lower back injury without playing a match in this year’s tournament. The Frenchwoman and the Dane are two of the most tenacious competitors on the WTA circuit and neither woman gives up trying for every point until the match is over – and so it was in this match too. Bartoli really battled to take the first set 6-4, Wozniacki easily took the second 6-1 and the decider also went to her, 6-4, in a match that lasted just over the two and a half hour mark.
6th seed Petra Kvitova and 3rd seed Agnieszka Radwanska did battle for the final semi final berth on offer. Kvitova got an early break to lead 2-1 and then another to lead 5-2 before serving out for the first set at 6-2. Games went with serve in the second set until Kvitova broke in the 7th game and then again in the 9th game to serve out for game, set and match with a 6-2 6-4 victory.
