6th seed Petra Kvitova made a rampant start to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final on Saturday afternoon against Sara Errani, the tournament’s 5th seed, by racing out to a 4-0 lead before she allowed the Italian on to the scoreboard by holding her serve for the first time in the match. Errani then proceeded to break Kvitova to get back one break and trail 2-4, but the hard hitting Czech broke for 5-2 and took her first chance to serve out the set, 6-2 in just 33 minutes.

Errani opened the second set and games went with serve until Errani got the first break to lead 3-1 and yet another one to lead 5-1 as Kvitova’s game, as is often the case, just fell apart. The Italian made no mistake in closing out the set 6-1.  Kvitova began the deciding set and, finding her range yet again, took a commanding 5-1 lead before serving out and taking the set 6-1 to become the 2013 champion.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the US and her Indian Partner, Sania Mirza who were no seeded, took the doubles title after beating Nadia Petrova of Russia and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, the 2nd seeds, 6-4 2-6 10-7.
