Denis Istomin of Uzekistan continued in his superb run at the ATP Memphis 2013 tournament as he made his way into the semis with a 6-4 7-6 (5) victory over American lucky loser Michael Russell.
Istomin, who has had a very consistent 2013 season so far, defeated John Isner and Lleyton Hewitt in the previous rounds and will next play Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
Lopez gave himself a chance to play for a place in the final after he overcame American Jack Sock in straight sets 6-4 6-3. Sock has also been a very pleasant surprise of the tournament as he played some great tennis to upset second seeded Canadian Raonic in round one.
This will be the third encounter between Lopez and Istomin, with the Spaniard leading the head to head 2-0.
