Top seed and defending champion David Ferrer made his way through to the Buenos Aires Copa Claro tournament quarter-finals after coming back from a set down against Argentine David Nalbandian, eventually prevailing 2-6 6-4 6-0.

Former world no.3 Nalbandian started the encouter strongly, breaking the Spaniard a couple of times to wrap up the first set. However, Ferrer changed gears in set two, with the crucial moments coming in the 10th game, when Nalbandian was serving to stay in the set. After he failed to do so and world no.4 Ferrer levelled the score, the decider was only a formality, with the Spaniard breezing through it and booking a last 8 match against Fabio Fognini of Italy.

Also through to the quarters is another Spaniard and no.2 seed Nicolas Almagro, who eliminated Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov 7-6 (5) 6-2.

Almagro, who lost to Nalbandian in last week’s Sao Paolo quarter-finals, had to fight hard to take the first set. As he admitted after the match, this wasn’t his best performances ever despite setting up a last 8 clash against Argentine wild card holder Federico Delbonis, who ousted Albert Montanes of Spain.
