In third round play at the Qatar Total Open being played in Doha, 6th seeded Italian Sara Errani took on the unseeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia on Thursday afternoon. Errani had a bye and an easy straight sets win to get to the third round, while the Slovak had an easy day at the office in her straight sets first round win, followed by her opponent’s retirement when she led 3-0 in the second round. Today both players brought their A games and gave the spectators a thee set thriller, with Errani taking the first set 7-5 and Hantuchova taking the second by exactly the same margin. Errani took control of the decider and won it 6-2 to complete the match in two hours and forty seven minutes to move into the quarters.
Top seed and world number one Victoria Azarenka was not extended in any way in her match against the promising American Christina McHale, who is ranked at 44. In just one hour and seven minutes on court, Azarenka totally dismantled McHale’s game and did not let her win even one game, prevailing 6-0 6-0. She will next take on Errani in the quarters.
