Seeded players Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro moved into quarterfinals in Dubai in straight sets.

Top seed Djokovic opened his first ATP encounter with Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in dominant fashion by escaping to 4-0 after achieving a double break. His opponent then got on the board in the next game, but could not do more than that in the first set. Djokovic held another game and added his third break to go one nil up after twenty-three minutes.

The set number two started similarly as the previous one with Nole building a 3-0 lead, yet the Spaniard stayed close and prepared a surprise in the ninth game when the World. No 1 was serving for the match, reducing the lead to 5-4. Bautista Agut managed to hold his next service game after saving four match balls and ultimately made it to the tie-break. He had his chances in the thirteenth game, but conceding five mini-breaks was too much to hope for a success against Djokovic who closed out the clash with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) final score.

Fourth seed Del Potro produced a routine victory against 315th-ranked Indian Somdev Devvarman by breaking his challenger’s serve once in each of the two sets. He thus converted his only break ball in the opening set in the third game, while fending off all three he was facing himself. He generated a triple set ball at 5-4 and was leading one nil in sets after converting the second one. He obtained a 2-0 advantage in the second set and celebrated a smooth enough victory in the end. The result: 6-4, 6-4.
