Top seed Marin Cilic prevailed in today’s Zagreb final against Austrian Jurgen Melzer with a 6-3 6-1 scoreline, winning his third title here.
Cilic broke his opponent four times alltogether to race to his 9th career title. After the Croat taking the first set, Melzer was unable to recover, winning only a game for the rest of the match.
The Croat, who overcame Zemlja, Kavcic and Youzhny to reach today’s final, received a €74,000 cheque and 250 ranking points.
“Most of my game was working extremely well, my returns were really good and I had a read on almost all of his serves. I took my chances and defended well. Overall, I played a great match from beginning to the end.” said Cilic after the encounter.
