Gasquet and Monfils advance into second round in Doha

Second seeded Richard Gasquet of France made his way into the second round of the Qatar Open 2013 as he overcame Czech qualifier Jan Hernych 6-3 6-4.

Gasquet will play the winner of the match between Fabio Fognini and Grega Zemlja next.

Also through is Frenchman Gael Monfils after defeating wild card holder Mousa Shanan Zayed 6-0 6-3.

Last year finalist Monfils has been battling injuries in 2012, will play 3rd seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany next, who eliminated Croat Ivan Dodig also in straight sets 7-6 (5) 6-1.

In other first round matches, no.6 seed Serb Viktor Troicki dismissed another German player Bjorn Phau 6-3 3-6 6-4,  Czech Lukas Rosol upset 8th seeded Pablo Andujar of Spain 6-2 7-6 (2) and Russia´s Nikolay Davydenko beat Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-2 6-3.
