Marcos Baghdatis seemed to have started the 2013 season on a high note as he booked a Brisbane International 2013 semi-final place after defeating Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-3 6-4.

The Cypriot broke the no.3 seeded Simon´s serve three times alltogether and improved his head to head record against the Frenchman to 3-2.

Baghdatis is renowned for his good start into the season, having reached the 2006 Australian Open final and winning the 2010 Sydney title.

Next up for the Cypriot will be Bulgaria´s Grigor Dimitrov, who eliminated Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-3 6-2.

Dimitrov could rely on his serve and the 17 aces he fired in the match just underline that statement. Many tennis experts expect a strong season from him (having reached 3 ATP Tour semi-finals in 2012).
