South African Kevin Anderson became the first semi-finalist of the Sydney International 2013 tournament after dismissing Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-4 6-3.

Istomin started the match on a higher note, taking his opponent’s serve in the fourth game for a 3-1 lead. However, not only did Anderson manage to break immediately back, he struck again in the ninth game, allowing himself to serve out the set.

After he broke Istomin in the opening game of the second set, he never looked back and sealed the match with another converted break point opportunity when the Uzbek player was serving to stay in it at 3-5 down.

Anderson will play Julien Benneteau in the semis, who eliminated American qualifier Ryan Harrison also in straight sets 6-4 6-2.

Benneteau, last year finalist here in Sydney, held his serve with confidence throughout the whole match as he didn’t face a single break point. He wrapped up the match in just an hour and 12 minutes.
