Third seeded Serena Williams overcame windy conditions and Varvara Lepchenko at the same time to book a place in the second round of the 2013 Brisbane International tournament.
The American showed some frustration and seemed to be a little distracted by the weather, but that didn´t stop her from demolishing her opponent in straight sets 6-2 6-1.
Next up for Serena will be the winner of the match between Alize Cornet and Bojana Bobusic.
Also through to the next round is no.6 seed Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic after dismissing Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3 6-4. Kvitova´s next opponent is set to be Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia who eliminated Czech Lucia Hradecka in three sets 6-3 3-6 6-3.
In other first round matches, Slovak Daniela Hantuchova ousted Lourdes Dominguez Lino 7-5 6-2 and Australian Jarmila Gajdosova defeated 16th seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy 4-6 6-1 6-3.
