Thomaz Bellucci managed to defeat the 17 time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer for the first time in his career, winning 7-5 3-6 6-4 in front of his home crowd in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
After equalling the score at one set all, the Swiss maestro started the decider on a more positive note. However, he couldn’t maintain his advantage and Bellucci grabbed hold of the set and the match.
Nevertheless, Roger looked relaxed at the interview and hinted that he would reduce his schedule of tournaments for the next few years and have one more go at the Olympic gold in four years time in Brazil.
“Hopefully I can still stay on tour for many more years and hopefully play the Olympics here in three and a half years or so, so I have to look far ahead and not just the next six months.” said Federer after the match.
