After taking a few weeks off from the PowerShares Series, Andre Agassi returned with a vengeance as he won the BILT by Agassi and Reyes Champions Showdown in San Jose, California.

Agassi was joined by Jim Courier, John McEnroe, and Todd Martin as they faced off against each other at the in front of a vocal crowd at the HP Pavilion.

In the the first semifinal, McEnroe saw off Martin 6-3. The second semi featured Agassi against Courier who had earlier in the month won back to back titles in Tampa and Atlanta. But with some striking backhand winners late in the set, it was Agassi who prevailed against Courier 6-3.

The finals came down to Agassi versus McEnroe. McEnroe was appearing in his sixth consecutive final of the series, but that wasn’t enough to hold off Agassi who soared to an 8-3 victory in the eight game pro set.

“I’m in a good place physically and mentally and I’m ready to do what it takes in the final events to take the season title,” said Agassi afterwards. “It’s a thrill to win the event here in San Jose and I’ll be ready for my home event in Las Vegas on Saturday.”

With his title run in San Jose, Agassi picks up enough points to move from eighth to fifth place in the overall series rankings. Courier still holds on to the top spot followed by McEnroe in second place and then Pete Sampras in third.

Players compete for points throughout the series with a $1 million dollars of bonus pool money up for grabs for those that finish in the top three at the end of the season.

The 2012 PowerShares Series returns to action Saturday night, November 17 for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America Championships, presented by 8 News Now in Las Vegas, Nevada. Agassi will compete in front of his hometown crowd at the Mandalay Bay. He will be joined by Michael Chang, Courier and McEnroe.

Agassi is hoping the Las Vegas event will serve as a catalyst for his numerous charitable endeavors in the city. Agassi has raised over $175 million in funds for charity with his most prominent focus being on the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas that helps elementary, middle school and high school students.
