6th seeded Serb Janko Tipsarevic booked his third round ticket at the 2012 Shanghai Masters as he overcame fellow countryman Viktor Troicki in straight sets 6-2 7-6 (3).

Tipsarevic, who is hoping to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals in London, broke his opponent twice in the first set to take a lead in the match.

The second set offered higher quality tennis with both players holding serve to set up a tiebreak. Despite Troicki having some chances to take the set when Tipsarevic was serving to stay in it at 4-5 and 5-6 down, he couldn’t convert any of the set points and Janko made him pay for it as he clinched the ‘breaker’, setting up a third round clash against Haas.

German Tommy Haas played a superb match against the Spaniard Tommy Robredo, prevailing in straight sets 6-3 6-3.

Haas leads the head to head against Tipsarevic with 2-1, but their last meeting happened a couple of years ago at the 2010 Australian Open, with the German winning in five sets.
