Janko Tipsarevic is through to the semi-finals of the Erste Bank Open 2012 in Vienna after his match with Aljaz Bedene was cut short. Tipsarevic had been leading 6-2 4-2 when Bedene was forced to retire with a left leg injury. The Slovenian fought admirably against a much better opponent but failed to make a dent on the Tipsarevic serve in the opening set. He would be broken once in the second set to fall down 1-2, completing three more games before eventually putting an end to the match.
Gilles Muller ended the run of Paolo Lorenzi, dispatching of the Italian without facing one break point. Muller dropped just three points on his first serve in the whole of the 6-3 6-4 victory and was equally efficient on return, taking both break point opportunities he had in the match, one in each set. Lorenzi looked like he might hold on for a tie break in the second, fighting to 4-4 before a sloppy service game gifted Muller the opportunity to serve for the match. He would fail to convert one match point but made no mistake on the second to book his place in the semis.
