Every week at SteveG, we’ll be highlighting some of the best quotes said by players, coaches and more from the world of tennis

“I don’t read books. I mean, I go on the Internet a lot and read stuff online, but I don’t read books. I haven’t read a book since I was about 14, 15. I got halfway through the third Harry Potter book.  It was the first one that was really, really big.  It was likes 600 pages. I stopped around 200. I haven’t read a book since then.” Andy Murray when asked earlier in the week in Shanghai what kind of books he reads.

“Wauw.. What a great victory that was today?! #oneofmybesteverrrr .. BOOOYAAAAH” – Belgian player Kristen Flipkens on Twitter after reaching the semifinals at Linz.

“I’ve never seen Roger double fault twice in a row let alone 3 times. I bet he’s never done that in his entire career,” Jamie Murray after watching Roger Federer serve three doubles faults in a row at Shanghai.

“I was in the changing room afterwards, changing my clothes, and I thought to myself, ‘Did I really win?’ So it’s just starting to settle in. “I’ve worked so hard for this moment my whole career – that’s why I practiced so hard, ran all those miles and lifted all those weights, for moments like this.” Heather Watson on winning her first career WTA title in Osaka, a first for a U.K. woman in 22 years.

“I was coming to Linz for the first time and everywhere you go you try to win, and I’m really happy I could go all the way through this tournament. I’m happy to end the week with such a beautiful trophy and a smile on my face.” Victoria Azarenka after winning her sixth title of 2012 at Linz.

“Hope u’ll accept my apology (once again) 4 giving u couple of heart attacks today. Seriously, I’m not doing it on purpose ;)” Novak Djokovic on Twitter after saving five match point en route to winning the Shanghai title over Andy Murray.

“Yeah, I mean, I have some plan, but I will tell you in time,” Jo-Wilfried Tsonga when asked if he plans to hire a coach in the near future.

“We’ll see how it goes. Look, I’m relaxed about it. I’ll give everything I can. I want to get through this season well and finish strong. But it’s not the number one goal right now,” Roger Federer when asked if his main goal now is to be ranked No. 1 at the end of the year.

“I’ve known him for 14, 15 years now. I’ve never had any problems with him on the court, never had any problems with him off the court. We’ve obviously had some incredibly tough matches which can test maybe a friendship. But we’ve always been I think pretty respectful of each other.” Andy Murray on his ongoing friendship with Novak Djokovic.

And a few quotes from the sport’s past —

“The mark of great sportsmen is not how good they are at their best, but how good they are at their worst.” – Martina Navratilova

“Tennis is just a game, family is forever.” – Serena Williams
