Defending champion Andy Murray beat Alexandr Dolgopolov in two easy sets 6-2 6-2 and after just 57 minutes of play and booked a place in the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2012 quarterfinals.

The Brit proved to be just a little too solid for the Ukrainian, who commited 34 unforced errors throughout the match as opposed to 10 winners. On the other hand, Murray came up with 9 winners and produced 12 unforced errors.

Murray took Dolgopolov’s serve in the third and seventh game of the first set to wrap it up and give himself a lead in the match.

The beginning of the second set was an exact copy of the first one, except for Dolgopolov breaking back this time to level the score at 2-2 as Murray showed some frustration by smashing his racket to pieces. However, after the Ukrainian dropped his serve in the very next game, the encounter was practically over. The 2012 US Open champion cruised to take the next three games and served out the match to 30.

Murray will play Czech Stepanek for a place in the semifinals.

Radek Stepanek upset no.8 seed John Isner, beating him in three sets 6-4 6-7 (5) 6-3.
