Ana Ivanovic and Petra Martic secure their quarterfinal spots at Generali Ladies WTA tournament in Linz.
Second seed Ivanovic marches on in Linz as she eliminated German Andrea Petkovic in straight sets. However, her performance was not all that convincing. Neither of the players managed to confirm their one break advantage by 5-4 from Ivanovic’s point of view. Petkovic was now serving to stay in the set, but gave away a double break point which was enough for the former top-ranked Serbian to steal the opener. A bit more consolidated serving in the set rwo, yet both of the athletes were broken once by 3-3. Ivanovic then took advantage of her next break point and got in the position to serve out the match. No answer from the German this time and it was all over after one hour and twenty-two minutes. Ivanovic secured her quarterfinal ticket with a 6-4, 6-3 end score and will play the better of Burdette-Flipkens pair in the last eight.
Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria surprised eighth seed Lisicki in the opening round of Generali Ladies in Linz, but fell short to young Croatian Petra Martic in the last sixteen. In the first set the Austrian could not recover after losing all of her initial three service games. She was a different player in the second set though as she got her hand on a two break cushion by 5-1. Martic broke her to love next, but Mayr-Achleitner stayed cool and wrapped up the set with producing a love game herself. However, there were worlds between the players in the decider. Martic did not allow her rival collecting more than five points – in other words, she tucked the match away by delivering Mayr-Achlleitner a third-set bagel. A 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory for Martic who is meeting top seed Azarenka in quarterfinals.
